Founded in 2004, the Shakara Couture
Label is a family-run business with a design team led by the creative
director Ewemade Erhabor-Emokpae.
She followed her passion and attended
the London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martins to be
professionally trained in millinery, dress-making, fashion illustration
and personal styling. The label is recognized for being heavily
influenced by vintage glamour, a colourful fusion of African and Western
vintage fashion using African tribal print and Lace fabric. The fairy
tale adventure ‘Alice in Wonderland’ has always inspired imagery of both
the whimsical and colourful. The focal point for the shoot was ‘the Mad
Hatter’s tea party’ scene with each model representing the book
characters: Alice, The hatter, The March Hare and the Dormouse. Through
the styling of the Shakara Couture pieces and interpretation of the
scene from the fairy tale, there is a colourful fusion of quirk and
inspired wanderlust portrayed through the photoshoot.
