EMERGINE LUXURY LINE: MAZE COUTURE

London based fashion label Maze Couture, named after the founder Maze, is an emerging luxury fashion and lifestyle brand with African heritage. The brand, whose collections have graced the runway of Africa Fashion Week London, specializes in an area away from the common Ankara print garments, which is ready to wear and couture bespoke kaftans. There aren’t much diverse styles you can make out of kaftans, but the label has created various looks with the cuts of the fabric, the fittings, various neck line cuts and of course the outstanding patterns. Check the jump for more photos of the garments and information about the designer.

Maze was born in Nigeria and came to the UK at the age of 18 to study and graduated from the University of Greenwich studying Civil Engineering. During the period of studying, he made clothes for individual clients and worked with couture and product designers. Maze has also worked for luxury companies such as Montblanc and Christian Dior under the LVMH Moët Hennessy helping him develop his creative style and gain an understanding of luxury garments.

shakara couture's alice in wonderland campaign

Founded in 2004, the Shakara Couture Label is a family-run business with a design team led by the creative director Ewemade Erhabor-Emokpae.
She followed her passion and attended the London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martins to be professionally trained in millinery, dress-making, fashion illustration and personal styling. The label is recognized for being heavily influenced by vintage glamour, a colourful fusion of African and Western vintage fashion using African tribal print and Lace fabric. The fairy tale adventure ‘Alice in Wonderland’ has always inspired imagery of both the whimsical and colourful. The focal point for the shoot was ‘the Mad Hatter’s tea party’ scene with each model representing the book characters: Alice, The hatter, The March Hare and the Dormouse. Through the styling of the Shakara Couture pieces and interpretation of the scene from the fairy tale, there is a colourful fusion of quirk and inspired wanderlust portrayed through the photoshoot.

AFRICAN ANIMATED SUPER HERO OYA:RISE OF ORISHA (call for donations on indiegogo)

OPEN THE DOOR TO THE WORLD OF THE ORISHA
Synopsis
Oya: Rise of the Orisha focuses on a young woman named Adesuwa who has the unique ability to transform into the fearsome warrior goddess, Oya, the Orisha of change. When she changes, she gains amazing abilities. We follow Adesuwa as she goes on a head-stomping mission to keep the doorway between the Orisha and humanity closed. Be prepared for an action packed , mystical adventure as we explore the world of the Orisha.
Directors Statement
The reason I became a filmmaker was to tell stories that haven’t been heard before and explore worlds that had been explored before. Oya: rise of the Orisha is my chance to do exactly that! These rich worlds and stories have been carried in people minds for millennia and told mostly orally. Amazingly, this culture has not been visualised on the silver screen in this way, until now!
I aim to create a slick production that will update these deities and make them and their world appear stylish and edgy. Similar to how 300 took a Greek myth and with a pumping rock soundtrack made a stylish extravaganza. With the advent of the digital age (low cost of high quality cameras and cost effective post production services), there has never been a better time to do this movie like this outside of a studio. I believe this is in tune with the zeitgeist.
What We Need & What You Get!!
We initially plan to make a short film, to introduce the world of the Orisha to audiences. It sets the scene for a large chunk of the feature film. The short film will be used as a vehicle to pool further investment for the feature film, as it will prove there is an audience and a market for this movie, targeting not just Nigeria and the Diaspora, but also comic book lovers and lovers of superhero films.
We plan to shoot start shooting the short in the middle of April 2013 at a budget of £5,000. The money will go towards the location, hiring equipment (-we intend to shoot on a Red Epic, providing the right style visually for the film), small fee for the cast and crew, but most importantly creating a whole new world in which these characters live and breathe.

MEET THE WORLDS SMALLEST MOTHER

Meet Worlds Smallest Mother, Stacey Herald
Meet Worlds Smallest Mother, Stacey Herald
Does she has plans for more children?

"All my babies are miracles, but we haven't thought about if we're going to have some more, as they're a real handful right now," Stacey said. "We didn't plan to have more than two kids, we just think that they're a great gift to the world, and when I look at them I see Will and I feel so full of love, it's tough not to want more."

And, yes, we see you staring at the screen: Her husband is 5'9". Her first daughter inherited her condition; the second daughter will grow to "average" height.

VIRGOS LOUNGE SPRING SUMMER 2013 COLLECTIONS

The vibrancy and glitter one has come to expect with every Virgos Lounge offering is quite tantalizing. Being a very visual person these images are delight to my eyes. Excellent photography and styling and event better work put into the design. Virgos Lounge started out with a couple of pieces which loads of people thought were no different from what you get at vintage stores. Slowly it moved away from that and has developed its voice and aesthetic. It’s young, sexy and flattering for those who care to keep their body in shape. Others stay away no one wants to see flabby tummies made more apparent by embellishments and stick to maxi dresses or our very own tailor made boo boo.

LONDON BASED UNDRRATED CO 5 PANEL CAPS

London based Label Underated Co is know for their witty tees and cool graphics. My favorite drop from them would be theses 5 panel African print caps though, bias aside or sentimentality or whatever you might throw at me because I’m African. It’s just too cool. They currently marked down now on sale. Grab them here.
